This 12th century Norman church is built inside a Neolithic henge, but the Black Death in the 15th century killed many of the inhabitants of the hamlet which was then deserted by the survivors. The church continued to be used into the 17th century but the roof collapsed in the 18th century so the church is no longer a place of worship.

Knowlton Church is one of the most haunted sites in Dorset and visitors are said to have commented on its melancholy atmosphere.

Although the henge dates from four millennia and the church nine centuries I was reminded we are in the 21st century when the tranquillity was shattered by a low flying Chinook as I was taking the panorama at F.
