The “House of the Saviour of the World” is the largest of all the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela and home to the Lalibela Cross
It is believed to be the largest monolithic church in the world.

Biete Medhane Alem is part of the group of six churches representing the earthly Jerusalem located to the north west and stands adjacent to Bete Maryam.
Its size is impressive, especially when one recognises it is carved out of the solid rock.
